About me
I am fascinated by the therapeutic effects of movement and exercise. At the age of 5, I began dancing pretty much every genre you can think of and believed I would pursue this as a full-time career. But after years of dancing, I developed a complex relationship with my body – constantly striving for a ‘perfect’ image which never felt attainable. Inspired by my experiences, I accepted an unconditional offer to study BA Liberal Arts with Psychology at The University of Nottingham where I studied the psychotherapeutic effects of movement and exercise, understanding their influence on the brain, neurochemical processes and overall well-being. This achievement earned me a scholarship to study an MSc in Dance Science and Education at The University of Edinburgh where I dedicated my research to understanding the unique benefits of movement and dance for people living with Parkinson’s, dementia and Multiple Sclerosis.
During my studies, I became a qualified Dance for Parkinson’s teaching artist and wrote multiple essays on injury prevention and Low Energy Availability and RED-S syndrome in elite athletes and dancers. Whilst at university, I also discovered a love of running and entered my first ultra marathon aged 21, coming 1st female and 3rd overall. It reminded me that movement no longer revolved around how I look to others on stage, but rather it’s a celebration of how strong and healthy I feel in myself. Since then, I have gone on to win 1st female at Tiree Ultra Marathon and enjoyed participating in the Boston Marathon, Edinburgh Marathon, Glentress Half Marathon, Loch Ness 24-Hour Relay and co-led Edinburgh’s largest all female running club.
Shortly after graduating from Edinburgh University, I worked as a free-lance fitness instructor, academic tutor and Dance Health Practitioner in Edinburgh. These roles allowed me to witness firsthand the incredible healing power of movement and how it can provide us with an enhanced sense of confidence, hope and psychosocial wellbeing. Emboldened by these experiences, I successfully applied to study MSc Physiotherapy (Pre-Registration) at Queen Margaret University where I furthered my interest in Neuro rehabilitation, MSK physio, Orthopaedics, community rehab and exercise prescription - receiving a Distinction overall.
All in all, I simply love to move and would like to help others find a format of movement which helps them feel strong, confident and healthy in their own bodies. Within my clinics, I strive to create a warm and friendly space, where every person is supported as an individual and met exactly where they are on their unique journey to health and well-being.
Before commencing her physiotherapy Masters, Ella worked as a full-time fitness instructor and Dance Health Practitioner in Edinburgh, where she enjoyed leading indoor cycle classes, dance sessions and movement programs for adults and young people living with neurological conditions. Equipped with this experience, Ella has a particular interest in musculoskeletal conditions, therapeutic exercise, sports, elderly rehabilitation and dance injuries.
