How Balanced Shockwave Therapy Works
Shockwave Therapy is an effective treatment for many conditions. Multiple studies have found symptoms improved in up to 80% of people with a chronic condition that had not responded to conservative management. Evidence shows that Shockwave Therapy combined with an exercise loading programme is the most effective treatment with the Shockwave Therapy used as an initial adjunct to settle chronic conditions or stubborn pain.
It has been shown to be particularly effective in the treatment of chronic tendon issues such as:
Plantar Fasciitis/Fasciopathy
Achilles Tendinopathy
Patellar Tendinitis (Jumpers Knee)
Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome
Proximal Hamstring Tendinopathy
Lateral Epicondylitis (Tennis Elbow)
Calcific Tendonitis of the Glenohumeral Joint/Shoulder
Current research suggests that 3 sessions of shockwave is required to achieve the desired effect but some patient with severe or long-term chronic (> 1 year) conditions may require additional sessions.
Some patient find Shockwave to be uncomfortable but the majority of people are able to tolerate it well. It will always be tailored to your individual need and can be adjusted accordingly. Some people may experience some redness, discomfort, swelling or bruising after treatment but this usually subsides after a few days.

How does it work?
Shockwave Therapy works by delivering a high energy non-electrical sound wave through the skin to the affected area via a hand held probe. These sound waves initiate a pro-inflammatory response in the treated tissue with an increase in blood flow, a breakdown of scar tissue and a triggering of stem cell activation all resulting in a stimulation of the body’s healing response. Are there any risks or side effects?
