I was apprehensive about starting Pilates as I didn't know what to expect. I needn't have worried because my instructor put me at ease and took my through the initial exercises with lots of care and attention.
I started Pilates at Balanced 6 months ago mainly on the advice of my swimming coach to help improve my core strength for swimming front crawl. I have also had a recurring problems with my iliotibial band after running, I was able to build up to running 10km and then I would get injured while trying to increase my speed. Having recovered from my last injury I have started running again for the first time in 2 months. I have built back up my distance and have run 10km for the first time since taking up Pilates. On checking my log I found out this was the first 10km I have run for 9 months and I ran it at a pace that was more than 30 seconds a km faster than the previous one. Not only is this a personal best but I had no more than tiredness in my legs the following day, no pain or problems with my iliotibial band.

I have been attending the Pilates mat classes for the last year. The Pilates team are excellent, they ensure that I am in the correct position for the exercises and even put a cushion on tender areas to help. I am 72 and all these little attentions to detail make an enormous difference.
