At Balanced we believe in tailoring our massage therapy to suit the needs of each client.
What is the best treatment for you?
Our massage therapists won't simply run through a routine of techniques but will assess exactly what muscles need worked on and adapt their pressure accordingly. Working on specific muscle groups provides a well-rounded treatment and long-term fix if you have aches and pains. The massage team is overseen by the physiotherapy team to ensure you receive only the highest care and attention.
To ensure that we match you with the ideal massage therapist, please let reception know what type of treatment you are looking for. It is important to us that we find the right person for you.
A more clinical massage where the therapist is treating a specific condition - assessing and palpating different muscles to determine where the pain is and how tight the tissues are. There will be sections of the massage that involve deep tissue work and may also include stretches, dry needling or muscle energy techniques.
A massage designed to release muscles pre/ post exercise or due to sport related injury. The therapist will be working on specific muscles, taking into account the stresses that the individual's sport may put on their body. It may also involve stretches, exercises and advice on return to sport after an injury.
Designed to promote relaxation of muscles, reduce stress/ anxiety and promote a general feeling of well-being. This massage should not be painful but you still feel your soft tissues have been manipulated. Can help promote deep relaxation and improve sleep while reducing general muscle tension.
Massage can relieve stress, pain, and muscle tension. During pregnancy, the goals of relaxation and pain relief are also the same, and may be even more important during such a potentially stressful time.
However a pregnant woman's body has some sensitive points that need to be treated carefully. While the legs, lower back, and abdomen can regularly take a lot of pressure, this all changes during pregnancy and less pressure should be used. Clients are side lying, never supine. Our therapists focus on upper back, glutes, lower sacrum and use Swedish massage techniques on the lower limbs and feet.
Our Balanced therapists use plant based oils: grape seed, almond, coconut, olive, beeswax with no added essential oils. Although most massage training institutions teach massage therapy for women who are pregnant, you may prefer to find a massage therapist who is certified in prenatal massage.
At Balanced our certified pregnancy massage therapists are Fiona and Aris.
Please make us aware if you are, or may be pregnant when booking your massage appointment. As with any therapeutic approach to pregnancy wellness, women should discuss massage with their prenatal care provider.
This a gentle hands-on treatment that may provide relief from a variety of symptoms including headaches, jaw, pelvic and neck pain. It is a deeply relaxing complementary therapy. CST uses a light touch to assess the soft tissue and movement of fluids around the central nervous system. Relieving tension in these structures promotes an extraordinary feeling of well-being.
The treatment focuses on the release of the body's connective tissue, or “fascia.” Fascia (Latin for “band”) is a membrane found throughout the body and wrapping around organs, glands, nerves, muscles, blood vessels, brain and spinal cord. The therapist uses their hands to gently wind up or release this connective tissue, helping to restore balance to the tension in the tissues.
Bowen Technique involves a sequence of rolling moves across muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia throughout the body. The intention is to elicit a response by stimulating nerve pathways and receptors in the tissues to address imbalances and tensions held. It can be performed through light clothing and the pressure of moves can be adapted to the individual making it suitable for all ages as well as for acute or chronic conditions. Through assessment, the practitioner selects specific moves to address underlying tensions.
